There
is a greater awareness among pet owners these days. The areas of
health and nutrition are of utmost importance in caring for your companion
animal. More and more people are taking matters into their own hands.
Through evolution, the bodies of dogs and cats have superbly adapted to maintain health on the foods that were most easily available to them in the wild. These would have been raw foods, also known as a biological diet.
It goes without saying that the foods our pets’ bodies have evolved to thrive on throughout millions of years are not the processed commercial foods of the last fifty years.
Look inside your dog or cat’s mouth. Their teeth are designed for tearing into flesh, not tearing into kibble.
Natural, raw foods set up and maintain healthy, natural biochemical reactions. These biochemical reactions set up a natural line of defense - a healthy immune system - that fights off bacteria, viruses, and parasites many times a day.
So by restoring your pet to his natural, health-giving diet, you can restore the myriad natural biochemical reactions that give strength to his immune system. This is the “magic” that keeps pets who are fed natural diets free of today’s “inevitable” diseases.
Why a raw food

Consider this:
What you feed your dog or cat can greatly affect the daily health of your pet. Simply by reconsidering what you feed your dog, can do more to improve his physical health, mental well being, and prevent future disease.
If you are thinking about switching your dog or cat from a commercial food to a raw food diet, Tollden Farms Bones and Raw Food Diet could be the answer. We have a variety of prepackaged frozen foods that are conveniently packaged making it as easy to feed as opening a bag of kibble.
The Tollden Farms diet is made from fresh, human-grade ingredients and where possible, we’ve used organic products. The ingredients in our veggie packs will vary. We try to use vegetables and fruits that are in season. This will help ensure your pet receives a balance over time, of the widest possible variety of nutrients.
But why include bones?
Everyone has certainly heard that Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphate are fantastic supplements for relief and support of arthritis for dogs. Fresh food diets that incorporate bone matter in the diet are supplying a large amount of natural glucosamine, chondroitin, collage, and of course, calcium. Bone is for calcium, cartilage is lubricating joints and interestingly, glucosamine is found in connective tissue, it is actually a structural component of connective tissue. So feeding bones is feeding a perfect nutritional package for structural health.
Bones are living tissue comprised of living cells. They are a complex source of a wide variety of nutrients. They contain minerals, which are embedded in protein. Bones contain fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E. Fat-soluble vitamins are associated with enhancing the immune system and promoting health and longevity. Bones provide natural antioxidant and anti-aging factors including enzymes. Bones also contain a perfect balance of calcium and phosphorus, which is vital to the health of your pet.
Vegetables and fruit
Vegetables play an important role in a pet’s diet. Vegetables contain many important health-promoting nutrients. They also contain carbohydrates, but they also supply fibre. The fibre found in raw vegetables is important in both preventing and treating certain diseases of the digestive tract. Which includes obesity, most of the diseases involving the lining of the intestines, diseases involving failure of food absorption, and includes diseases of the pancreas, plus other pancreatic problems such as sugar diabetes and pancreatitis. Dogs and cats don’t have the ability to break down vegetable matter, so in order for our pets to benefit from the vitamins and minerals in produce, they need to be pureed to expose the cell walls.

Seeds, roots and grasses
Our “botanical” blend has a mixture of ground seeds, roots and grasses in place of ground veggies and fruit. We’ve found some dogs and cats do better with less vegetable matter, so we’ve formulated our botanical blend to provide nutrients and fibre found in the ground vegetable matter. Dogs with chronic allergies, dermatitis, yeast infections and “itchy-scratchies” do well on this type of blend, as so dogs and cats with irritable bowel disorders.
